Specifically, LVM. A couple of teams want the flexibility they offer for pets in cloud environments, and GPT for +2TB disks. Some teams want basic filesystem hardening concepts like not having all an instance's system files in the same filesystem.

There's also the matter of OpenSCAP for HIIPA and STIG compliance. Some teams want (at least) one or the other.

For these and other reasons, we wish to build images ourselves.
