New on the AlmaLinux Blogx86-64-v2 EPEL Now Covers AlmaLinux 10 Stable
The EPEL package builds for AlmaLinux OS 10 stable are now complete and
ready for use
<https://almalinux.org/blog/2025-06-26-epel-v2-now-covers-almalinux-10-stabl…>
!
In March, ALESCo approved a proposal
<https://github.com/AlmaLinux/ALESCo/blob/master/rfcs/0001-build-fedora-epel…>
to build EPEL packages from Fedora EPEL's source RPMs (SRPMs) to maintain
long-term feature parity for our x86-64-v2 support initiative. Last month,
these packages became available for AlmaLinux Kitten 10
<https://almalinux.org/blog/2025-05-13-epel-10-kitten-v2/>, and today we
are happy to announce that x86-64-v2 EPEL support is now available for
AlmaLinux 10 Stable as well.
libblockdev CVE-2025-6019 Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability
Qualys published details about a vulnerability discovered in the
libblockdev package. Two vulnerabilities were announced, CVE-2025-6018 and
CVE-2025-6019.
AlmaLinux is not impacted by CVE-2025-6018, but AlmaLinux 8, 9, 10, and
Kitten 10 are all impacted by CVE-2025-6019. While the avenues for
exploitation are limited without the impact of CVE-2025-6018, ALESCo has
approved updating this ahead of our upstream, given the potential severity
if there are other, yet to be discovered, avenues to perform the exploit.

VMWare open-vm-tools CVE-2025-22247
About a month ago, Broadcom (VMWare) released a security advisory for
CVE-2025-22247 impacting the open-vm-tools package commonly installed
inside of virtual machines on VMWare hypervisors.
AlmaLinux 8, 9, 10, and Kitten 10 are all impacted by CVE-2025-22247. While
it is only a moderate severity, ALESCo has approved updating this ahead of
our upstream given the community requests for it over the past few weeks.
As of June 18, 2025 20:00 UTC: The patches for all versions have been
published into stable repositories. A normal dnf upgrade or dnf upgrade
open-vm-tools will pull in the updates.

Latest from the AlmaLinux BlogCall for testing - OpenSSH CVE-2025-26465
Qualys recently announced
<https://blog.qualys.com/vulnerabilities-threat-research/2025/02/18/qualys-t…>
two critical vulnerabilities for OpenSSH - CVE-2025-26465 and 2025-26466.
Neither RHEL nor AlmaLinux is impacted by CVE-2025-26466 in any way.
However, both AlmaLinux 8 and 9 are impacted by CVE-2025-26465.
While it is not yet patched in RHEL 9, and is considered out of scope for
RHEL 8, some of our users are asking us to patch this for their own
security. As a result, we have pulled in the upstream patches and are
asking users to test the updates. Learn more in this blog post
<https://almalinux.org/blog/2025-02-20-test-patches-for-cve-2025-26465/>!
ELevate to CentOS Stream 10!
Following our recent updates about the ELevate project
<https://almalinux.org/blog/2025-01-14-elevate-updates/> and your feedback,
we’ve added one more upgrade path. You can now upgrade from CentOS Stream 9
to CentOS Stream 10 as a part of ELevate NG!
