What I had to do.... I had to hard switch away from using mirrorlist to using the explicit vault.centos.org/8.5.2111. Then I was able to update to 8.5 and use almalinux-deploy.sh.

Glad you found a solution. As far as I know they're supposed to stay online through Jan 31 but some mirror owners have probably started shutting theirs down. I haven't thought too much about dead repos impacting upgrades to Alma but Andrew (added to this chain) probably has. Regardless we need to make sure we have a solution to continue allowing at least 8.4 and 8.5 upgrades to continue working, and probably 8.3 too. I'll try to do some testing of my own and see how all things fail with dead Cent repos.

I found two mirrors that did not replicate the death of centos8: http://centos.mirror.rafal.ca/8.5.2111/ https://mirror.0xem.ma/centos/8.5.2111/ I hope to be able to perform an rsync without delete to be able to take from centos 7.9 to 8.5 and then move to almalinux

You can try my branch of almalinux-deploy if you want and use the "-f" flag to have it do it all for you. https://github.com/jonathanspw/almalinux-deploy/blob/centos_8_mirrorlist_dea... bash almalinux-deploy.sh -f It will fix yum repos, do the DNF update, then all the normal almalinux conversion stuff. There are all offline for me. If you read the readme inside them, they tell you deprecated and the content is gone. Just when you thought you might have one more day!

What I had to do.... I had to hard switch away from using mirrorlist to using the explicit vault.centos.org/8.5.2111. Then I was able to update to 8.5 and use almalinux-deploy.sh.

Glad you found a solution. As far as I know they're supposed to stay online through Jan 31 but some mirror owners have probably started shutting theirs down.

I haven't thought too much about dead repos impacting upgrades to Alma but Andrew (added to this chain) probably has. Regardless we need to make sure we have a solution to continue allowing at least 8.4 and 8.5 upgrades to continue working, and probably 8.3 too. I'll try to do some testing of my own and see how all things fail with dead Cent repos.

So today was the last day that CentOS 8 would be on the main mirrors. The mirrorlist will return ``` curl 'http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=8&arch=x86_64&repo=os' Invalid release/repo/arch combination ``` The CentOS 8 code has been moved to vault.centos.org and the main master will be 'empty' from an rsync.Various sub-mirror sites which do a `rsync --delete` will soon also remove the 8 code also. [Some mirrors don't do a --delete and will still have that code online. However few `yum update` will work on a CentOS 8 system. -- Stephen J Smoogen.
